At the Choral Festival

Every year, my school hosts a choral festival. Each class prepares a song throughout the semester to perform in a final competition. As the festival approaches, our class leaders select the music and assign everyone to their vocal parts.

I signed up for the alto section. I worked hard to learn the melody based on the notes I was given, but once we joined the sopranos, the sound was strangely off. It felt as though the alto and soprano lines were clashing rather than blending together.

I suggested to our class president that we might need to adjust the notes for each part. When the president asked for my help, I ended up arranging the harmonies for the entire song. Although my musical knowledge was limited, I did my best to be helpful to the class. Using a piano app on my tablet, I tested the keys one by one until I finally identified the source of the dissonance.

Once I shared the corrected notes with my friends, a classmate who used to misunderstand our church—often viewed me through a negative lens—said, “I see you in a whole new light now.” I wasn’t able to do what I did because I possessed amazing musical talent or special skills; rather, I believe God helped me achieve this result simply because I tried to fulfill my role with sincerity. I am determined to live out the rest of my school life with that same faithfulness, letting my light shine as a child of God.
