How Love Flows in My Family

There are four people in my family:
my dad, my mom,
my brother, who is two years older than me, and me.

As I started paying closer attention to my family,
I began to notice a certain pattern
in the way love flows in our home.

So I thought I’d give you a little peek
here in “Family Deep Dive.”

#Dad → Me

My dad absolutely adores me. He’ll do just about anything I ask. After my exams were over, I told Dad I was craving jjajangmyeon. I was so touched when he made it for me himself.

I think Dad has a soft spot for me by nature—we’re practically twins! From our glasses and broad foreheads to our peanut-shaped faces, meticulous personalities, and even our love of cooking, we’re alike in so many ways. Whenever people tell us how much we look alike, Dad breaks into a huge smile.

#Me → Mom

I’ve always been attached at the hip to Mom. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved being by her side, following her everywhere. Whatever Mom did, I would do the same. The adults around us would always say, “You two are inseparable!” Mom says she found it adorable, and deep down, reassuring to always have me by her side.

#Mom → My Brother

Mom absolutely dotes on my brother. To her, he is not only a dependable son but also someone who makes cooking a joy. No matter what Mom makes, he happily eats it all.

#My Brother → Dad

My brother really looks up to Dad. He loves going places and having fun with him, and he tries to follow his advice.

Once, when my brother was recognized for good behavior at school, Dad posted a message praising him in our family group chat. My brother seemed to be in a good mood all day. Dad’s encouragement and praise also help him improve in areas where he falls short. Just a few encouraging words from Dad can make a big difference. Before long, he improves so much that you’d hardly know there was anything he needed to work on.

#Me ⇆ My Brother

Well, my brother and I are typical siblings who bicker from time to time. Haha. I guess that’s just how siblings are.

Still, we’re there for each other too. I remember when I was studying late at a study café during exam season, and my brother came to pick me up. I was really grateful.

I can feel how much we love one another in the little moments we share every day. I think one of the secrets to our close relationship is our weekly family meeting, where we talk about what we hope for one another and share the good things that happened during the week.

I thank God for blessing us with a happy home where we love, encourage, care for, and serve one another. I hope our family will continue to share this happiness. I love you all!
