The Mouth Speaks What the Heart is Full of

Recently, as I reflected on the words I speak, I began to wonder whether a careless remark of mine might have inadvertently hurt a brother or sister. Wanting to speak words that are gracious and bring joy, I searched for sermons about the power of words. As I listened, one passage deeply touched my heart:

". . . For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him."Matthew 12:34–35

God teaches us that our words reveal what our hearts are full of. This led me to examine what my own heart was filled with. Rather than being full of love for my brothers and sisters, I often found myself thinking, “Why is that person acting that way?” Instead of trying to understand other members, I was judging them. As a result, hurtful words would sometimes slip out before I even realized it.

Beautiful words come from a beautiful heart. From now on, I want to cultivate the soil of my heart first, so that my words will not wound my brothers and sisters, but instead bring them comfort and encouragement.
